Drastic changes to Sheffield Avenue to come before City Plan Commission on Thursday, November 21

On October 16, 2013, the Office of Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced into City Council an ordinance to authorize the vacation of Sheffield Avenue City right-of-way and the reduction of the width of Sheffield from 33 feet to 23 feet in order to accommodate recent changes to the proposed Wrigley Field redevelopment.  The changes require that the Planned Development for Wrigley Field be amended.

The proposed amendment to the Wrigley Field Planned Development will go before the Chicago Plan Commission at on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the City Hall 2nd floor Council Chambers.

As a result of this latest Cubs proposal, Sheffield Avenue will be narrowed to a width of 23 feet.  Residential parking will be prohibited along the east side of Sheffield.  Eighty four residential units (this includes both Sheffield and Waveland) will be directly affected by this change.  Our community will lose about 50 residential parking spaces for 365 days a year to benefit the Cubs on 80 plus days a year.  East Lake View Neighbors is concerned as to the resulting impacts to charter bus loading and to fire trucks and other emergency vehicle which now use Sheffield.

The Cubs have yet to present to our community the details of the proposed changes to Sheffield.
