Ordinance for drastic changes to Sheffield Ave to come before City Council committee on Wednesday, November 6

On October 16, 2013, the Office of Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced into City Council an ordinance to authorize the vacation of City right-of-way on Sheffield Avenue in order to accommodate the further expansion of Wrigley Field.

This latest Cubs proposal calls for an additional extension of the right field wall further east into the Sheffield Avenue public right-of-way.  Sheffield Avenue will be narrowed to a width of 23 feet.  Residential parking will be prohibited along the east side of Sheffield.  Our community (including spaces lost on Waveland) will lose over 50 residential parking spaces for 365 days a year to benefit the Cubs on 80 plus days a year.  East Lake View Neighbors is concerned as to the resulting impacts to charter bus loading and to fire trucks and other emergency vehicle which now use Sheffield.

The picture shown below is a view looking north along Sheffield Avenue of the proposed design.

East Lake View Neighbors opposes the changes to Sheffield Avenue and has so advised the Chicago Cubs and the Office of the Mayor.

The ordinance will go before the City Council Committee on Transportation and Public Way at 10 AM on Wednesday November 6th in Room 201A City Hall.  There will be an opportunity to testify before the Committee as to community concerns regarding the changes to Sheffield.  East Lake View Neighbors will be represented at the Committee meeting.
