44th Ward Update (Chris Jessup for Alderman Tom Tunney)

  • Congratulate to 19th District Police Comdr Marc Buslik on his retirement after 39 years of service. He has led the 19th District since his assignment in November 2016.
  • The Commander’s celebration will be on Monday, May 13th, in the Community Room of the 19th District Police Station, 850 W. Addison, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Refreshments & dessert will be served. Please RSVP to 19th Distr Community Policing Office at 312-744-0064 by Thu, May 9th.
  • Supt Eddie Johnson promoted Lieutenant Chris Papaioannou to Comdr of the 19th District. He has 19 years with CPD and previously led the Recruit Training Section of the Education and Training Division and has held several supervisory positions within patrol, gun and tactical teams. We look forward to welcoming Commander Papaioannou.
  • Police District Staffing as of May 6 th is at 379 versus goal of 400. Any interest in court advocacy training? Any interest in having a designated CAPS/Court Advocacy board member in community organizations?
  • The window to appeal assessments in Lake View Township is open April 30 – May 30. Staff from Commr Gainer’s office will be on hand to assist appealing 2019 assessments in the 44th Ward on Friday, May 17 th . For best chance to successfully appeal, consider bringing recent photographs of your home. Please note new rules this year:
    • The Commissioner’s office cannot appeal condos in buildings with more than 6 units.
    • For condo buildings with 6 units or less, they can only work with HOA president, treasurer or secretary.
  • If you are unable to attend, Commissioner Gainer’s office can appeal over the phone! Please call (312) 603-4210 during normal business hours to get started.
  • Redefine the Drive: Two community meetings with CDOT to be scheduled in June. Dates TBD.
  • Alderman Tunney has allocated Aldermanic Infrastructure funding for the following projects:
    • Residential Street Resurfacing of the 3700 block of Sheffield (Waveland to Grace)
    • Residential Street Resurfacing of the 900 block of Waveland (Fremont to Sheffield)
    • Residential Street Resurfacing may potentially happen in 2019 depending on a survey and cost analysis for the 3600 block of Wilton (Addison to Waveland)
    • Residential Street Lighting Upgrade of the 3700 block of Wilton (Waveland to Grace)
    • 44th Ward newsletters (past and present) are located online.
    • 46th Ward Update (Alderman James Cappleman)

      • Alderman Cappleman has officially won the last aldermanic election.
      • A new website can show where and when street sweeping is occurring around your neighborhood.
      • The 311 App is available to request city services such as graffiti removal, pothole complaints, rodent baiting, street light repair, garbage cart maintenance and more. The app also lets you track the progress of your request and give the city immediate feedback.
      • Smart street lighting will be installed in the 46th ward through August

      Cubs Update (Heather Way Kitzes)

      • There are two concerts scheduled for Gallagher Way:
        • Ludacris on June 1st
        • Billy Currington on Aug 9th
      • The Cubs will pave Waveland
      • On May 18 the volunteer Neighborhood Grounds Crew group will conduct a litter pickup. In addition to neighborhood volunteers, the Cubs and Hefty will end support and helpers. The group will meet at 9:30am at Murphy’s Wilton & Waveland parking lot. Volunteer via email.

      Treasurers Report (Aileen Tien)

      • Total available funds are $38,102 after an additional $220 in membership dues were collected

      Green Team (Brandon Cunningham)

      • Pints for the Park (for Kelly Park) will be held at Murphy’s Bleachers on Fri, May 31 at 7:00pm. The $40 admission fee covers all food and drinks, and entry into a raffle. The event will include a silent auction and review of the draft plans for Kelly Park.
      • A building sized mural is being considered for the south face of a building at 3716 N Sheffield. ELVN is co-sponsoring the work.

      Condo Seminar scheduled Sat, June 1 st from 10:00am – 12:00pm at the 850 W Addison Police Station

      ELVN Open House (Brandon Cunningham)

      • The ELVN Open House is a way for East Lake View Neighbors to promote and communicate information about the organization
      • The first open house will be held at PR Rustica Italian Bistro from 5:00-6:00pm on either Thu, May 30th or Thu June 13th.

      Maddon’s Post Restaurant (Zubin Kammula, Ben Galatz)

      • Joe Maddon’s restaurant opening on Tue, May 14
      • Located at 1119 W. Waveland (SE corner of Clark & Waveland)
      • Italian, Polish and American cuisine
      • Chef Tony Mantuano (James Beard award-winning chef) is partnering with Maddon
      • Restaurant’s second floor includes the Flamingo Room, a private bar and event space
      • Other Report Outs

        • Estelle from the Gill Park and Buena Vista Parks Advisory Council reported on work to improve and level the back grass area of Gill Park to make it useable for T-ball and other sports
          • It’s Your Park Day will be held from 9:00am – 2:00pm on June 1st

            • Review volunteer sign-up for event

            • Band, food, and drinks are being handled by Murphy’s Bleachers
            • Posters and flyers will be printed
            • Continue to pursue sponsors, and assignment of merchants for solicitation will be sent out
          • Need to begin putting together a 3-person panel to determine candidate for the 2019 ELV Neighbor of the Year (Jim Spencer)
            • Beth Murphy was 2018 ELV Neighbor of the Year
          • Motion Proposed by Aileen Tien:
            • Due to time constraints on our volunteer web-masters the ELVN Board should hire a new web-master for website updates and other online needs at a rate of $75/hour
